Neil Young’s great song, “My My, Hey Hey” has been kicking around in my consciousness for quite a long time now. It’s from “Rust Never Sleeps” recorded in 1979.
Is it better to “burn out than to fade away?” Probably not. I suppose, if I had to choose, I’d say it would be better to shine on brightly, as brightly as possible, for as long as possible. So anyway, a great song, one of my favorite songs about life and death. So simple, so clear, says everything in just a few, plain words.
I have been haunted this year, 2017, by death, death, both near and far, I mean, of course, it’s like any other year, people come and go. That is how it goes. I sing this song, as a sort of elegy for all those who passed this year. And all those who passed in previous years too. I mean, yes, I know it’s a long list, not even a list, a vast never-ending river… rolling along. My, my, hey, hey… – Jammer
