We were back to playing in the street yesterday. There is something so gratifying & rewarding about playing music with our band so close to home, smack dab in the middle of our own neighborhood, surrounded by lots of friends and familiar faces. We are so lucky to know so many truly wonderful folks.

We put the bill together, hustled our gear down the street, did the setup and takedown; you know the whole package deal. It’s a bit of a circus. “Hey kids, let’s put on a show.”  It just happens that the street is bounded by the the train-line one side, and looming buildings on the other, which makes for a sonically resonant soundscape.

Lars Von Keist & Scott Free opened the show with a fantastic, dynamic duo set. Heartfelt originals played with fire and passion. Quite thrilling to see & hear two unique souls giving it their all.

whitewolfsonicprincess followed with a full set, old tunes & new tunes brought to life with two special guests, Rich Poston on guitar and Eli Wilson on sax. We felt good about our set. The mix was great. When it sounds good to us, it’s easier to find that transcendence in performing. Afterwards smiles all around.

Then it was The Leisure Committee led by Eli V. Wilson on a classic, legendary, Mark 6 saxophone. A great, super-fun quartet. All fantastic players. How to describe the music? Chill, Space-Age, Lounge Jazz. Great originals and a quirky-cool cover of Spy Vs. Spy. Perfect way to end the show.

It was good one. That street has a bit of magic in the shadow of the fabulous La Principal restuarant. A thriving little scene. Yes, the Custer Street Oasis. Pretty cool, a place where the kool kats kongregate. – Jammer

Playing at the Consciousnenss Rising Fest last night was exhilarating. We played our music to rolling hills, the trees, the water, the goats, the pigs, the chickens, and the kind and gentle folk who came out for music and frolic. The Lovely Carla Hayden and I did a WWSP Duo thing. We felt a little naked & exposed; our last show was with the full band. So it all seemed a bit elemental and revealing, just the two of us, two voices, an acoustic guitar and various percussion instruments. Instead of a major hurricane of sound, it was a little concentrated storm. We both felt we did “get there,” a few songs into our set. I burst into flames by the 3rd song, it’s always a good sign, total ingintion & liftoff. We both lost ourselves in the moment. It was quite a challenge and a kick! Thanks to Dennis Frederick for inviting us. And to Jeffery Dietz for hosting it all at his amazing, rollicking playground & farm. Day Two today. Highly Recommeneded! – Jammer

whitewolfsonicprincess & the Flying Chaucers played a concert on the street yesterday at the Custer St Oasis, next to the fabulous La Prinicipal. All day we monitored the weather. Hour by hour it went from sunny, to cloudy, to rainy, to sunny, rainy and back again. It was exhausting. We had no idea if the show was on or off.  Hours of indecision & uncertainty. “The waiting is the hardest part.”

We lucked out. By 3 pm or so it was sunny & blue skies. It appeared that our string of bad luck, bad weather, and bad sound, was broken. We schlepped our own P.A. to a few doors down to the end the street and set up under a tent. We do know our own P.A. intimately. We fired up an old iPod and blasted The Beatles “Let it Be Naked,” (2003) on those powered speakers. “Naked” is a much better mix and production than the original Phil Spector version of the album. Anyway, I do believe conjuring up Beatles music helped set a tone, & bring a crowd. It all sounded glorious blasting in the hood.

Every time we do a show, we wonder, “Will anyone be there?” The answer was a resounding “YES!” A fabulous gathering of folks; good friends, devoted fans, lots of familiar faces, new faces too. Our band was in fine form. We all really, really wanted to have a great show, and everything just clicked. And the audience was with us for the ride. When it is good, and this time it was more than good, it is absolutely the greatest feeling in the world.

A dance party broke out. The street became a launching pad for transcendence. We all felt it. Just a fabulous happening. It’s amazing when it all clicks. You never know, you can’t will it, you just prepare, do the work, be open to the moment, and when it materializes, you really do your best to fully “have it.” You ride that vibe for all you are worth.

Afterwards, smiles, kind words, good cheer, deep satisfaction. Then there was the taking down, the packing up, the schlepping. It’s all part of it too. “How was the show?!” BETTER THAN DRUGS!” –Jammer

Ha. Our luck with the weather has not been all that great lately. Every outdoor show is a crap-shoot. We are hoping for sunny skies and mild temps. Who knows?! Back to the basics with The Flying Chaucers. On the street at The Custer Oasis 700 Main St. in Evanston. Suggested donation: $10. – Jammer

Yes. It is true whitewolfsonicprincess has been on a bit of a bumpy ride lately! The last two shows: bad weather, bad sound. Still, happy to say, we did get some good news yesterday morning. Our album release show for our new LP “Love Without Fear,” will be at Evanston SPACE on Thursday, October 31. Yes. A Halloween celebration! Perfect! You know, sometimes you just take the hits, try to keep it together, do a little soul-searching and then, morph, evolve, heal and dream. And then, well, you know, “damn the torpedoes!” Jammer

All apologies. We want to thank all the folks who came out to see us this Saturday, and apologize for the nagging sound issues that plagued our set. Why the apology? What should have been a sweet transcendence was a bumpy, sonic road. We played a r&r show last night and it was often feedback and bad mix for us. The sound gremlins were out in full-force. The room was totally packed with fans of our band. A truly impressive turnout of humanity on a beautiful summer night. We did our best, but we wrestled with bad sound pretty much the whole set. You know, it does happen, occasionally even to the biggest performers in the world. We aren’t that, just a little, struggling band, fighting to find our voice and audience. Happy to say, there was a soulful, enthusiastic crowd, there was lots of dancing to the grooves, but the vibe was under assault pretty much the whole night; a dollop of chaos & noise. A bit of a vibe-killer. No doubt. Who or what to blame? Let’s just chalk it up to bad luck, chaos & entropy. Anyway, onward, upward, and looking forward to a better day, and a better soundscape. Seeking transcendence one r&r show at time. – Jammer
